What is in store
We are finalizing the cast of teams entering.  Looks like we will be pulling 3-4 teams from the waitlist this weekend.  We will start refunding money on Monday for those of you who have paid.  We simply filled up before the deadline.  With the economy and the different tryout structure the state did this year, I expected the numbers to be down.  I never thought we would have exceeded the limit.  We had about 218 teams apply.

We will go to scheduling starting near the end of this next week.  We will proof it over the weekend and then post by next Sunday, Monday or the lastest Tuesday.  Then you will proof it and notifiy the mistakes that we made.  We do this by hand and not through a program simply because of coaches with multiple teams and multiple requests.  The number one request:  late morning games.  We are full to the max, so somebody has to expect to play early morning games.

Waitlist
Here is how the waitlist works.  A waitlist is established by time and by bracket.  This means that if a team drops out, our goal is to replace it with like age and gender.  What this means is that there is a waitlist for every age group including adults.  We will pull from the waitlist is we have a odd number bracket as well.  Hope this helps.

Registration Overload

It has happened.  The last minute flood of registrations as sent the total amount of teams over the maximum that is set aside for the tournament which is 175 teams.  Currently, I think we have 200 teams.  We probably had 70 teams apply on line yesterday with another 10 in the office which puts us in hold pattern.
Our goal now is verify the incoming rosters through the applications that were received in the order they were received.  We will process them and then send confirmation letters over the weekend.  We will process the applications as they are timestamped through the internet.  This means that because you sent your application before the deadline does not guarantee a spot.  A waitlist will established.
Many teams have been on the unconfirmed list for a while waiting payment.  Those teams will be dropped from the unconfirmed list and replaced with a team on the waitlist.  The unconfirmed teams will have until Thursday April 24th to make that happen, then they will be dropped.  The unconfirmed teams are the ones that sent the application but no money, they should know who they are.
We are in the process of seeing if there are any field configurations that we can do to squeeze another field in which is a possibility.  We will have that answer by the weekend as well.
We are trying to do everything we can to get the teams in but it remains a mystery why so many teams wait till the last minute to apply.

Scheduling Requests
We are getting bombarded with the scheduling requesting to play later in the day "as we are traveling early in the morning".  I realize that saving some money on hotel rooms is important, I want to make sure that I can't honor all requests as we have a full busy day on Saturday.  Somebody has to play in the morning and it can't be all Yakima teams as I am sure they don't want to play each other.  We try our best to honor all request but we wanted to let everybody know that a lot of you are requesting the same thing

Email Letter of Confirmation
As expected, we are getting quite a few entries as we get closer to the deadline.  A confirmation letter will be sent to you verifying that the team is accepted which means that the roster is verified and payment is received.  This letter will verify team name , city listed in the program, and it asks that you reply back so that I know the email system works.
It takes a few days as the YYSA office and I use the same spreadsheet which we electronically send back and forth every 4 days or so.  Please hang in there and a letter will be in your mailbox shortly

SURVIVOR SUNDAY
Survivor Sunday is a special feature that this tournament offers that no other tournament has.  All teams, U-11 and above, play three games on Saturday.  Points are tallied and each team in the age bracket is awarded a seed number at the end of the day.  Sunday play is based on seeding where play is similar to the NCAA basketball tournament.  All teams play on Sunday.  Survivor Sunday simply means if you win, you play again. If you lose, your tournament play ends.  Before each game, we play the Survivor theme song then sound the buzzer and drop the ball.  Of course, the higher the seed, the easier the path.  Survivor Sunday is designed to play every other half hour which depending on the size of the bracket, you could end up playing an additional four games on Sunday.  If a game ends in a tie on Survivor Sunday, both teams go to Tribal Council where a shootout Yak Attack style occurs; a shootout against my hay bale goalie.  IAW FIFA Shootout Rules

CODE FOUR UNIFORM CONTEST
Once again, Code Four Athletic Apparel Company is sponsoring a uniform contest.  This event is one of the trademarks of the Yak Attack.  Teams are encouraged to make their own uniforms for this event and many teams come to the event with some awesome looking and funny looking uniforms.  We parade all the teams across the main stage and introduce each team to the crowd.  Uniforms have to in good taste and three winners are awarded; Boys, Girls, and Grand Champion.  Each winning team wins a $200.00 gift certificate from Code Four Athletic Apparel Co.  Contest starts at 12:45 on Saturday.

YAK ATTACK FOOD SOUP DRIVE
Another unique feature of the Yak Attack is our Northwest Harvest Food Drive.  In years past we have had a food drive where teams bring in food and win a ride a limousine.  The past two years we have seen food donations plummet which might be caused by the economy, we don't know.  This year we will be doing it a little different.  We are asking each participant to bring 1 can of soup to the tournament.  This has the potential of gathering 1800 cans of soup which the food bank would be gratefull.
