Kellogg's Frosted Flakes and Tony the Tiger

It's Official!  Kellogg's Frosted Flakes has picked the Yak Attack as one of fourteen tournaments across the United States  to come and visit.  Kellogg's will have a large tent area with all kinds of stuff to do as well as Tony the Tiger.  They will also have lots of Frosted Flakes with or without milk.  I have seen the setup and it couldn't fit in any better than what we have already.  We are honored that they picked the Yak Attack to come and attend.  Should go well with my Elephant Ears!

Fast Approaching Deadline
It looks like by all indications, we will be closing the registration process before the deadline.  It could end before April 1st.  Thanks to all who have registered and look forward in seeing you in May.  In the meantime, come up with some country names for your teams.  We have some pretty funny ones already that I will post soon.

2010 Yak Attack Teams

We are getting closer to max limit of teams and we haven't hit April yet.  We are far ahead of last year at this time that we will probably close registyration prior to the deadline.  Why am I telling this.  Simply to say, don't wait till the last minute.  Last year we had 84 applicants register within three days of the deadline with another 35 teams that couldn't get in.  As of today, we have spots for 60 teams left, and they keep coming in.  :)

New Food Vendor

A new food vendor will be at the Yak Attack this year.  Those of you from the Central Washington area know of these people but we are glad that we having the St Paul's Elephant Ears at this year's Yak Attack.  They will have a smaller version of the ear at a smaller price as well.  Easily consumed without the coach knowing.

SURVIVOR SUNDAY
Survivor Sunday is a special feature that this tournament offers that no other tournament has.  All teams, U-11 and above, play three games on Saturday.  Points are tallied and each team in the age bracket is awarded a seed number at the end of the day.  Sunday play is based on seeding where play is similar to the NCAA basketball tournament.  All teams play on Sunday.  Survivor Sunday simply means if you win, you play again. If you lose, your tournament play ends.  Before each game, we play the Survivor theme song then sound the buzzer and drop the ball.  Of course, the higher the seed, the easier the path.  Survivor Sunday is designed to play every other half hour which depending on the size of the bracket, you could end up playing an additional four games on Sunday.  If a game ends in a tie on Survivor Sunday, both teams go to Tribal Council where a shootout Yak Attack style occurs; a shootout against my hay bale goalie.  IAW FIFA Shootout Rules

CODE FOUR UNIFORM CONTEST
Once again, Code Four Athletic Apparel Company is sponsoring a uniform contest.  This event is one of the trademarks of the Yak Attack.  Teams are encouraged to make their own uniforms for this event and many teams come to the event with some awesome looking and funny looking uniforms.  We parade all the teams across the main stage and introduce each team to the crowd.  Uniforms have to in good taste and three winners are awarded; Boys, Girls, and Grand Champion.  Each winning team wins a $200.00 gift certificate from Code Four Athletic Apparel Co.  Contest starts at 12:45 on Saturday.

YAK ATTACK FOOD SOUP DRIVE
Another unique feature of the Yak Attack is our Northwest Harvest Food Drive.  In years past we have had a food drive where teams bring in food and win a ride a limousine.  The past two years we have seen food donations plummet which might be caused by the economy, we don't know.  This year we will be doing it a little different.  We are asking each participant to bring 1 can of soup to the tournament.  This has the potential of gathering 1800 cans of soup which the food bank would be gratefull.
